A HISTORIC 1811 HOMESTEAD SITUATED IN THE VILLAGE OF HOUW HOEK IN THE WESTERN CAPE

Wildekrans Country House is a historic 1811 homestead situated in the village of Houw Hoek in the Western Cape.

Overlooking a rambling garden that cascades to the river, and silhouetted by a rugged mountain backdrop, the house is furnished with antiques and contemporary South African art. Accommodation with breakfast and dinner is available as is a self-catering option.

All rooms have DSTV and WiFi. The homestead has three double rooms including a suite. A separate cottage alongside the homestead is perfect for families or travellers wanting kitchen facilities.

Quirky, burnished by the years, Wildekrans Country House offers a relaxing interlude away from the the daily grind of city life.

Unsurpassed generosity both spiritual and material. This is a home with an authenticity and natural beauty so hard to find. The attention by the chef's, hospitality team and trail guides to ones comfort and enjoyment was boundless and enthusiastic. This is a happy place and the mood is infectious. The hikes were magnificent, and due to the respect towards Allison, our host at Wildekrans ,from the neighbouring wine farms, we were treated like VIP's at each wine tasting and lunch. Absolutely beautiful home and garden with a unique art collection, in a serene setting, yet very accessible from Cape Town. The hospitality of the owner Alison and her team is unparalleled! I will be back again:) If you look for a tranquil place to rest, and want to enjoy beautiful family vineyards around Elgin, you won't find a lovelier place for your retreat!

The rooms were comfortable and big. The house is old so has lots of history. The food , which was served in a beautiful barn, was amazing. All dietary requirements were taken into account. The views and peaceful garden with a swimming pool also added to the experience.I can recommend a weekend getaway.
