Green Mountain
Farm stays, slackpacking and beachfront holidays
Tripadvisor Visitors
Tripadvisor visitors to the Green Mountain often mention our beautiful and extensive gardens, feeling at home, our contemporary collection of South African art, the mountain trails, our attention to details, our delicious breakfasts, the home made food, the surrounding history, ours being a tranquil space, the old world charm and farm barn and swimming pool. Describing the Green Mountain as a little gem and very special place.
Two recent Tripadvisor reviews meant the world to us:
Wildekrans Country House
Wildekrans Country House offers four star graded stays including breakfast. Farm style dinners booked ahead. Stay for at least two nights.
Michelangelo described us recently in this way, Dwarfed by the Houw Hoek mountains and abutting the Kogelberg Biosphere is the historical home of Wildekrans Country House. The base camp for the Green and Blue Mountain Trails, this 1811 homestead is also a haven for those seeking a farm stay far from the madding crowd. The home is a balancing act between contemporary arts and the Cape period pieces true to the nineteenth century history.
The two signature aspects of this destination are the flowing gardens and the abundant collection of South African artworks. The unstructured farm gardens seamlessly lead you to fynbos mountain walks and orchard meanders. The Jakkals River , which has its source in the Groenlandberg high above the neighbouring Paul Cluver Wine Estate, runs through the property on the mountainside. A meandering stream, sourced by a Houw Hoek mountain spring, trickles around artworks just below the Homestead, branching off to create a series of fairytale lily ponds, the vision of the owner’s late mother, Roma Green.
Langebaan Beach Cottage
Langebaan Beach Cottage offers three-night minimum stays at this three-bedroom beach front home. Restaurants and entertainment in walking distance. The garden gate leads you through West Coast fynbos onto the beach and West Coast National Park. Georgia East described her weekend at Langebaan Beach Cottage like this “A summer kitchen on the West Coast. Towels and tuna sandwiches carried down the pathway to the beach before the wind blows in at midday. Across the strandveld to the lagoon, passing fishing boats at rest. A laughing dance that unearths white mussels from the beach, nearby seagulls waiting for scraps. Small waves lap at the shore, revealing tiny lilac seashells and frilly doilies of seaweed to beachcombers.
Suntanned limbs and sandy feet rinsed clean in the shower, wet hair curling in the afternoon sunshine. Bluegum smoke-scented summer, seekat and citrus over the coals. Dappled light over a wrinkled linen tablecloth, paper napkins and wine glasses (with ice!). An old blue soup pot filled with mussels and a side of homemade focaccia – no cutlery necessary.
A glimpse of the moon through the manitoka trees and an ocean lullaby to fall asleep to.
An ode to @langebaanbeachcottage and the magical week we spent there last year.”
The Blue & Green Mountain Trail Experiences
The Green and Blue Mountain Trail experiences cater to each individual need. Every client is well anticipated before arrival and cared for from beginning to end. Michelangelo had this to say. Two sensational slackpacking routes in a most beautiful stretch of the Elgin Valley. Not only do you get natural beauty and great comraderie…but superb wine tastings, hospitality, and great overnight stays.
Slackpacking, the best of all worlds! Green Mountain, the company, offers two really exquisite slackpacking trails, where your luggage is taken from end point to end point, and you only carry a day pack. It’s a wonderful experience, a fantastic way to meet others, enjoy a coffee with breathtaking views as far as the eye can see, laugh a lot, and make memories. The two trails are: The Green Mountain Trail, a moderate walking trail around the Green Mountain in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, with distances varying between 11kms and 18kms each day. And the Blue Mountain Trail, founded in 2015 on the back of the Green Trail’s success, is a three-day moderate hike covering a 50km route through the UNESCO-declared Biosphere offering sweeping views of the Overberg coastline.
