Good Morning

In a recent Italian language class, a fellow student talked about Lady Gaga in our weekly ‘show and tell’. This extraordinary singer, songwriter and actress, has sold an estimated 170 million records. She founded the Born This Way Foundation, a non-profit organization aiming to empower youth, improve mental health, and prevent bullying. (Wikipedia)

Gaga’s work is fascinating, I am a huge fan. Listening to her belting out SHALLOW as Ally in A Star is Born,  is exhilarating. While House of Gucci is a sinister story, her character play of Patrizia Reggiani, costumes and drama are incredible.

Harper’s Bazaar published that Gaga had said that she lived as Reggiani for the whole of filming. ‘I was the same way for A Star Is Born. I was always Ally,’ Gaga said. ‘And for this (House of Gucci), I was always Patrizia. I always spoke in my accent. I just lived it as her. I brought the darkness  home with me because her life was dark. I had a psychiatric nurse with me towards the end of filming. …. I have a sort of romantic relationship with suffering for your art that I developed as a young girl, and it just sometimes goes too far. And when it does go too far, it can be hard to reel it in on your own.’

This last weekend brought some movie and fireside weather. Now is the time of year that the lands of Wildekrans Country House start to wake up from their much needed chilly rest. We are harvesting our lemons this week to make lemonade.

Anna Sacke (of Love Books and Bamboo, Melville days) taught us to make lemonade with our rough skinned garden lemons, and yes, granulated sugar, and loads of love. Anna is a great literate and very much a ‘when life gives you lemons ….’ kind of gal.

Jill Trappler was introduced to me by university friend and artist Jackie Solomon, a few years back. Many artists have week ended here at Wildekrans Country House, under the gentle yet firm care of Jill’s guidance and tutoring. Jill will return for the weekend of the 14th of October 2022 workshop INTERIORS – pictures and places, books, engines, fridges, of music, of caves. To be an art student for that weekend, ENQUIRE HERE.

Extra and ordinary people make our world go around. The guides of the Green Mountain Trail excel in their knowledge of the plants and geology  of the Kogelberg Biosphere. Paula de Boer walked this  August , ‘The scenery is tranquil, the guides so experienced and the history of the area is fascinating. The service and food at Wildekrans is exceptional. Can’t wait to do the Blue Mountain Hike soon!’ ENQUIRE HERE.

‘Do not ask your children to strive’ was recently posted by @secretchords_apoemfortheday. It’s from  The Parent’s Tao Te Ching: Ancient Advice for Modern Parents by William Martin

‘Do not ask your children
to strive for extraordinary lives.
Such striving may seem admirable,
but it is the way of foolishness.
Help them instead to find the wonder
and the marvel of an ordinary life.
Show them the joy of tasting
tomatoes, apples and pears.
Show them how to cry
when pets and people die.
Show them the infinite pleasure
in the touch of a hand.
And make the ordinary come alive for them.
The extraordinary will take care of itself.’

With love,

PPS: Lady Gaga’s full name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta.

PPPS: 2019 was the third remake of A Star is Born! This 1937 American Technicolor romantic drama film has been remade three times: in 1954 (directed by George Cukor and starring Judy Garland and James Mason), in 1976 (directed by Frank Pierson and starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson), and in 2018 (starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, who also directed).
